Six weeks and one day...

This was the long awaited day...Lilly, Garret and I set out early for our appointments.  Our first stop was Precision Imaging where we had Lilly's leg x-rayd.  One of the technicians asked to sign her leg and Lilly turned him down!  He acted offended, so I asked Lilly why he couldn't sign it.  "I don't know him, and my cast is coming off today anyway."  The first answer was good enough for me!

We ran several errands and had to stop for lunch.  It was Lilly's day so her choice ....

I couldn't resist this park as we drove by.  I think it's close to 70 degrees here today!

We finally made our way to Dr. K's office.  He checked the x-ray, everything looked good....Praise the Lord!

Off came the cast!!!

Lilly wasn't too happy.  The doctor said this is normal.  She'll start walking on her new leg when she's ready.  No rush!  Also, no jumping or bike riding for one month.  

I'll miss my hop a long Lilly!  

Goodbye Clean Room!

After 6 viewings of "Wall-E", 2 "Prince Caspians", and numerous library videos - Lilly mustered the strength to scoot to her bedroom and do something more familiar!

She is our principal mess maker! We're glad to see her back at task! Once again, thank you for your prayers. She is almost completely off pain meds and is sleeping well at night!

Pretty In Pink!

Everything went as well as the ER doctor said it would. We heard scary stories this weekend of pins, settings, and surgeries, but none of that was needed! The doctor did decide to add an extra layer of pink. Somehow he got the impression that Lilly is a busy girl :)! Lilly can begin wearing a cast shoe in three weeks -so she'll be walking on her leg! In six weeks the cast should be off!

We're thanking the Lord for His protection, healing and mercy. Praise the Lord!

Lilly's Broken Leg

Thanksgiving morning Lilly suffered a spiral fracture to the left front tibia. If I'd had been using my camera, you could have seen that our family was spending Thanksgiving in a beautiful campground near the Sequoia National Forest. We'd spent the previous day hiking, and all Lilly wanted to do this Thanksgiving morning was ride bikes with her cousin Kelsey!I've narrowed the accident down to three reasons:

1. Lilly is an inexperienced bike rider

2. The ground was wet, it had rained the previous day and night.

3. Her competitive nature! She admitted to me on the way home that she was trying to beat Kelsey. I asked her if it was a race, she said "No. I just wanted to beat her."

After a trip to the ER, we enjoyed a beautiful Thanksgiving dinner which Emily prepared all by herself :(! Wish I could have helped, she did a great job running between our trailers cooking everything. She even went to the store to buy more sweet potatoes, because I dumped mine in the trash before we left for the ER. Sadly, we decided the best thing to do for Lilly (and her parents) was to end our trip early. Lilly has been much more comfortable at home.

Grandma has a tradition of buying each grandchild a stuffed animal when they have a major trauma! Unfortunately, three of my children have received stuffed animals from Grandma now! And this is the second one Grandma had to buy this year!

Well, this has been a big weekend. Despite the circumstances, I've been able to rejoice in much. Please pray for Lilly. This is hard for her. Thankfully, we were able to get her pain under control yesterday. It hurts very much for us to move her, we only do so when she needs to use the "facilities". We have a referral for an orthopedic doctor. Please pray that she can be seen on Monday and casted. We know now that it's best not to break a bone on a holiday weekend, as doctors like to have a vacation too! Still, we're thankful for everything the ER did for us. We're trusting the Lord to lead us through the rest of this journey. Your prayers are needed and felt!

Our Week

Our week was incredibly busy! Following are some highlights! Monday was an unusual day for our family as we almost all went separate ways! The boys were invited to a birthday party, Rachel to a friends house, hummm!! I saw an opportunity and took it! I made a phone call and soon had arrangements for Lilly to play at a friend's house too! After I dropped off each child, I hit the road for Pleasanton. I enjoyed a nice visit with my friend Aparna, and a nice lunch date with our husbands! After visiting their office we did a little shopping and then had to call it an afternoon. The C. family gave the boys a science set. Bret spent two days building different things and getting the motors to work. He is definitely his father's son!
Can you say fried? My computer died this week! Wade replaced the video card and it's running for now. He bought me a new computer, which I apparently approved in my sleep! I have no memory of him telling me he was buying the computer, or me telling him which credit card to use! Apparently both happened! So, who is more clever? Me, for coherently communicating in my sleep - or Wade getting me to approve this $$$ purchase without my knowledge!!
Rachel is now a Safe Sitter! She spent two days learning the ins and outs of babysitting! I wish I would have had a class like this! She learned how to communicate with parents, how to discipline children, what to do in an emergency, etc.
As with most things in our small town, there were many familiar faces. This made the class more enjoyable and comfortable for Rachel.

Ouch! Bret was helping dad kill wasps on Thursday! He only got bit, not stung - so no worries! Living out here will make a man of him!

Miss Lilly, all ready for her doctor appointment. Today was her Kindergarten physical. She really enjoyed all the attention, and did great with the shots! Afterward, we celebrated with lunch at In and Out Burger and a trip to the mall. We browsed a few stores, visited her cousin who works at Roger's, and finally purchased a new pair of tennis shoes! Looks like she needed them!!

The Best of Both Worlds

This is a first for the Crews. A bike that is not a birthday gift, or a Christmas present. The rising gas prices seemed to warrant this purchase. Why did I call this blog the Best of Both Worlds? That's how I felt today. Rachel, Bret and I rode three miles to town (swim team) and back this morning. This evening our whole Crew took a bike ride to the nearby state park. We enjoyed inspecting our friends' young almond orchard (with rows of beans growing between the trees!). The shade offered by the walnut trees, just when we were working up a sweat. And our destination, a breezy ride through the state park(permission granted by the ranger). So you see - we really have the best of both worlds living here. A short ride to town and an enjoyable ride in the country!
So what's this? Rachel wiped out on the way into the gravel driveway! Oops! She's a trooper though, and looking forward to riding to swim practice again tomorrow!
